The function of a performance rights organization is to collect royalties on behalf of its members. To that end they monitor their member's music when it is performed on the radio, TV, in nightclubs and any other public performance. Royalties are collected and then distributed to members, minus any relative administrative fees.
Register with one of the following performance rights organizations for the collectionof your performance rights. As they all offer a variety, of services, contact them directly to make the determination of which organization best suits your needs.
Some Key Tips
Never submit materials to anyone without a copyright. Contact the Copyright Office:

The process can take up to 16 weeks and the charge per application is $35.00 - $65.00.
The U.S. Copyright Office grants you exclusive rights to original material for aterm equal to the length of the life of the author/creator plus 70 years. be sure and include the copyright trademark on any copies of your copyrighted works. Caution, permission to use copyrighted material must be obtained by the owner's written consent prior to use or duplication.
Also, never sign any contract, publishing or otherwise, without having it looked over by an attorney (preferably with entertainment/music industry experience).
