1. Program directors want songs that will get a positive reaction via the request line and call-out  research. Is there a buzz? Is it selling? Select songs with national appeal. A sound that works in New York may not work in Memphis.

2. Your CD presentation can make or break your changes of getting heard. Be sure to include copyright and publishing information.

3. Followup. Call and Email. It may take weeks to get your music considered. Leave messages with details: who, what, when (release date) and why they should consider it.

4.Service BDS (Broadcase Data System - www.bdsonline.com and Mediabase (www.mediabase.com) These services detect the number of times your song is played. Retailers and distributors use the data for product placement. PDs use it to monitor what's happening at other stations . Once you begin getting airplay, keep PD's up to date with key information that will let them know the song is working.  April Washington, Essex Three Fold Music Group
